How to get to Langkawi by Car
From Kuala Lumpur
The travelers must be aware that there is no direct line connecting Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi. You must drive to Kuala Perlis Jetty Terminal or Kuala Kedah Jetty Terminal and then go with a ferry to Langkawi. The time spend for this trip is 6 hours (if you go through Kuala Jetty Terminal) and 7 hours (if you go through Kuala Perlis Jetty Terminal. The payment for highway tolls are RM50 –RM 70 in only one direction. If you go with a ferry, it will take up to 2 hours and 15 minutes (from Kuala Kedah) and 1 hour and 30 minutes (from Kuala Perlis).
How to get to Langkawi by Ferry
All ferries start the trip from Kuala Perlis or Kuala Kedah and ends to Langkawi Island.
Kuala Kedah -The prices for one way are: Malaysian Children RM20.50, Malaysian Adults RM26.50, International Children RM25.50 and International Adult RM34.50.
Kuala Perlis -The prices for one way are: Malaysian Children RM16.00, Malaysian Adults RM21.00, International Children RM19.50 and International Adult RM27.00.
Getting to Langkawi by bus
The trip to Langkawi must start by taking a bus from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Perlis. The reason for this is because the bus station in Kuala Perlis is near to the ferry terminal.
You must take a bus from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan or Dutra Bus Terminal and travel to Kuala Perlis Bus Station. Then, by walking go to the ferry terminal and travel to Kuah Jetty Terminal in Langkawi. The cost of this journey is around RM50 – RM60 and it lasts around 8 hours.
How to get to Langkawi by Flight
From Kuala Lumpur
There is a possibility to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi by plane. There are a lot direct flights every day from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, with its final destination to Langkawi International.
Airlines that offer you this service are:AirAsia, Batik Air, Malaysia Airlines and MyAirline. Cost for these tickets are: Batik Air – RM100 to RM200, Malaysia Airlines – RM200 to RM400, AirAsia – RM100 to RM200 and MyAirline –RM100 to RM200 (these are the prices for one way tickets). The duration for the trip is 1 hour and 10 minutes.
From Selangor
If you are traveling from Selangor to Lankgawi, take a direct fligh from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport.
The companies that offer this service are Batik Air and Firrefly.
Cost for the tickets are RM100 to RM 400 (Firefly) and RM100 to RM400 (Batik Air), The duration of this flight is 1 hour and 10 minutes.
From Singapore
There are direct lines from Changi Airport to Langkawi, by Scoot and Singapore Airlines. Cost is SGD200 to SGD500 (Singapore Airlines) and SGD100 to SGD200 (Scoot). The flight lasts 2 hours and 50 minutes.
Traveling to Langkawi from Thailand
If you start the journey from Satun or Koh Lipe, there is a direct ferry line. Cost is RM150 to RM 160 (from Koh Lipe) and RM45 (from Satun). The trip lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes from Koh Lipe or 1 hour and 15 minutes from Satun.
Trip from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi
This is the route with directions of how to get from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi: if you are traveling by car or bus, to get to Kuala Kedah Jetty drive via North South Expressway. You will need to exit 177 Espressway via Alor Setar Stelatan, and then follow the signs when heading to Kuala Kedah Jetty.
If you want to go to Kuala Perlis Jetty, the trip is amoust the same, but you have a longer route. You will need to drive 1 more hour until you get Changlun and follow the signs to Kuala Perlis Jetty.
Traveling from Penang to Langkawi
There are 2 ways to travel from Penang to Langkawi: by bus, by train of by plane.
Since 2020, the ferry was suspended and is not available. When you travel by land or by air, you will need to take the ferry when you get to Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis.
(a) If you travel by train and then take the ferry
You can start your journey with KTM Komuter Train, from the station Butterworth to get to Alor Setar.
From Alor Setar Train Station, you can take a bus, take a taxi or take the ferry to get to Kuala Kedah. When you get to Kuala Kedah Ferry Terminal, use the ferry service to Kuah Jetty Terminal.
(b) If you travel by bus and then take the ferry
You can start the trip by taking a bus from Butterworth Bus Terminal to get to Kuala Perlis Bus Terminal, which is only several minutes away from Kuala Perlis Jetty Terminal.
When you arrive in Kuala Perlis Bus Terminal, walk to get to Kuala Perlis Jetty Terminal. And then take a ferry to Kuah Jetty Terminal located in Langkawi.
(c) If you travel by plain
Also, traveling by plain is an option, you can take a plane from Penang to Langkawi with the company AirAsia.
The ticket cost RM100 to RM300 (one way ticket). This is the fastest way to get to Langkawi, it is only 30 minutes. Also, if you want to travel from Penang you can use Malaysia Airlines and Firefly.
